The Helvetia Group has been growing successfully for more than 150 years within the insurance company sector in Switzerland and around the world. Currently, the Swiss company Helvetia has branches in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Austria and Spain. Besides this it has a global presence in the Specialty Markets of France and other selected destinations. It also manages investment and financing activities through subsidiaries and fund companies in Luxembourg and Jersey. Its headquarters are located in the Swiss town of Saint Gallen.
Helvetia caters for both individuals and businesses alike. In addition, it offers a specially customized range of products and reinsurance. The focus of its activities are individual customers, as well as small, medium and large companies. Today, with around 6,500 employees worldwide, the company has more than 5 million customers. In 2016, the Swiss company Helvetia generated a turnover of 8.51 million Swiss francs and obtained an operating income of 491.8 million Swiss francs. The registered shares of Helvetia Holding are known on the Swiss stock exchange SIX Exchange Ltd under the acronym HELN.

Helvetia increases profits and reports vigorous growth


In the first half of 2015, Helvetia Group reported a very positive business development - thanks to the successful acquisition of Nationale Suisse and Basler Austria last year. The result from operating activities rose by 12 percent to CHF 221 million, the business volume increased by 15 percent (in local currency) to CHF 5'294 million. The capital shows continued strenght with a Solvency I of 200 percent. Likewise, the SST ratio is unchanged in the range of 150 to 200 percent. The key figures for the first half of 2015 at a glance:

  • Net income from operating activities after taxes *: CHF 220.9 million. (H1 2014: CHF 196.9 million +12.2 percent)
  • IFRS profit after tax (including acquisition effects.): CHF 161.8 million (1st half 2014: CHF 196.9 million; -17.8 percent)
  • Business volume: CHF 293.6 million 5 (2014: CHF 4 812.7 million +15.1 percent; in original currency).
  • Solvency I: 200 percent (2014: 216 percent)
  • Combined Ratio (net): 92.4 percent (1st half 2014: 94.0 percent)
  • Equity (without preferred securities): CHF 4 391.4 million (2014: CHF 4 963.1 million.)
